‘Exchange’ Reminds Us of the Raw Emotions of Love

In case you haven’t been paying attention, Bryson Tiller is one of the hottest artists in the R&B world. Fans and music critics have opened the Louisville, Kentucky singer with his mixture of hip hop/trap beats and soulful, honest lyrics about love, relationships, and regret; a breath of fresh air from the “you ain’t shit” and “bitches & hoes” approach that has seem to be the new norm in R&B music today. Tiller gave us more to look forward to with the music video for his second single off his debut album, T R A P S O U L, entitled “Exchange”.

The video was released last week on Vevo and has received mostly positive reviews. The video, directed by Rohan Blair-Mangat, consist of Tiller’s love interest looking through a photo book entitled, “THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I THINK ABOUT YOU” (which happens to be the first line of the song). As the love interest looks through the photo album, Tiller is singing in a beautiful house, while simultaneously having flashbacks of the relationship. The video ends with Tiller, and his love interest, meeting at the top of a mountain, and the word “Exchange” pops up.

This is easily one of my favorite videos this year. I appreciate how Tiller used the song and the video to speak on a message of love and letting your guard down. As much as I’ve written on this subject before, this video was much needed, due to the fact that we live in a world where people would much rather cut you off then tell you how they feel. Bryson, thank you for building a platform to make maturity and real R&B cool again.
