4 Albums to Listen to Before 2016 is Over

It seems as if new music is coming at us quicker than an order at McDonald's. Music listeners were stunned by the release of A Tribe Called Quest new album, but I couldn't let these albums go by with any recognitions. These albums are perfect for all the moods we go through day and night. Whether you need to feel loved, feel like dissing your ex, or feel the need to explain the importance of Black Lives Matter, these albums perfectly illustrate that with heartfelt lyrics and ear-pleasing beats. Here are five albums you need to listen to before 2016 is over.

Tinashe Nightride

With a deeper, darker, edgier approach to her music, Tinashe's new album is just the album to listen to during or after a night out with the squad, or you can listen to this when you're going through a breakup and looking to get back into the dating game. This album shows Tinashe's depth once again, but it does show her ability to be edgy and take control of her sexuality. This album also, in my opinion, resembles the same vibe and energy of Janet Jackson's The Velvet Rope album; which shows not only how much Janet has influenced her, but how much Tinashe lives up to her title of "Baby Janet". Here's a peak into one of my favorite tracks off the album, "Company".

Keke Palmer Lauren-EP

While she’s best known for her acting chops, dancing ability and strong vocals, we’ve never gotten a chance to listen to a full project by the Scream Queen actress. Lauren allows listeners to get to know Palmer on a deeper level. With this EP, we are able to see Palmer’s growth as a person and a raw gritty emotion she has not shown the world before. If you’re currently in a need to find yourself, this EP will help guide you on your path of self-discovery, and her song “Hands Free” will help you twerk out your emotions. Common Black America Again

After this year's elections, and with more people of color being attacked, this album perfectly embodies thoughts and feelings of black and brown people. This album is a guide for those who want to know what it’s like to be black in America, and what are the challenges we face. The album also sends messages of love, liberation, and justice, especially for black women…something that isn’t often expressed in the hip-hop community. Bruno Mars 24K Magic

After listening to some edgy music filled with raw emotions, it’s good to sit back and listen to some soulful music that reminds you of the golden ages of R&B. Inspired by the dance and slow jams of the late 70’s, 80’s, and early 90’s (specifically New Jack Swing era), 24K Magic is a 9-track album with songs created with love, performed with passion, and oozed confidence. This is definitely an album I’ll be playing on New Year’s Eve, and something we can bump to next summer when we’re at the cookout. 20 years from now, we’ll see some kids singing songs from this album and ask, “what you know about this?”.  Now, what do you all know about "24K Magic"?
