Last night, music fans across the country and on social media ranted and raved about the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards. The award ceremony took place at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall, where the first VMA award show was held 34 years ago. During the pre-show, up and coming artists performed on the Radio City Music Hall marquee, while nominees and celebrities strut down the red carpet. The crowded was roared when Jennifer Lopez arrived, as she was the guest of honor for the night. VMA correspondent announced to viewers that Lopez was the first Latina artist to receive the Video Vanguard award.
Towards the middle of the show, Jennifer Lopez began her Video Vanguard performance with one of her earlier hit singles, “Waiting for Tonight”, with the recreation of the set design from the video. Lopez continued to performed her numerous hits including “Get Right”, “I’m Glad”, “Jenny From the Block”, “Love Don’t Cost a Thing”, her latest single “Dinero”, which she won the Best Collaboration award for later that night, and “I’m Real” with a surprise appearance from Ja Rule. With hit songs, and doing her signature choreography from her videos, Jennifer Lopez stunned the crowd and received a standing ovation from the audience.
After her performance, Jennifer Lopez accepted her award and gave a speech how she lived not too far from Radio City Music Hall and about her journey in music, acting, and dance. She also touched on how people told her she should only stick to one thing, but she didn’t listen and stuck with pursuing her dream. Lopez thanked her fans, the people she’s worked with, her longtime manager, Benny Medina, her kids, her father, her sister, and her mother, who she says is the original dancer of the family.
